The Parkview Middle School Jazz is open to 7th Grade
students who play Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Piano, Bass Guitar or Drum Set. It is strongly encouraged that
the rhythm section players (piano, bass & drums) study privately with a qualified private lesson teacher beginning in
their 6th grade year.
The Jazz Band rehearses one or two times a week before
school at 7:30am. This is the first jazz experience for many students, so emphasis is on the basic jazz concepts
of style and improvisation. Band members play and practice out of The Standard of Excellence series "Jazz Ensemble Method
Book" which can be purchased at the local music stores.
The Jazz Band performs 3-4 times a year, culminating
in a concert with the high school jazz bands and a guest artist.
